WildCats with Big 3-1 Win over EMU on Senior Day

LYNCHBURG, VA – On Saturday, the Randolph College women's soccer team honored its two seniors, Ally Ramos and Courtney Collier, before its game with Eastern Mennonite University.  The 'Cats did an even better job on the field, defeating the Royals with a 3-1 comeback victory in an important Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.

The WildCats came out as the more aggressive team, but struggled to find the back of the net.  Eastern Mennonite countered one of those attacks in the eighth minute and Morgan Hill scored off a pass from Amanda Williams to take the lead.  The rest of the game belonged to Randolph.

In the 13th minute, Patricia Garrett sent a ball in from the left, and Sam Hablas timed her run perfectly.  She one touched it over Becca Borg to tie the score.  The 'Cats continued to control the game and found themselves on a counter-attack of their own in the 29th.  Delaney Doyle and Hablas got behind the Royal defenders, but Doyle's shot was stopped by Borg.  Ten minutes later, Megan Kruse, who came on for Doyle, and Hablas each had great opportunities to score, but could not find the back of the net, leaving the score tied at 1-1.

Coming out of the intermission, Randolph continued to be the aggressor.  Within the first 15 minutes, the WildCats had two shots blocked, two miss right, and a corner with a great opportunity.  Taylor Gamble then rushed forward in the 66th and saw her attempt rattle the crossbar, but it was cleared off the line by an EMU defender.

The 'Cats kept pushing forward, looking to take the lead.  Finally in the 80th, the WildCats broke through.  The great midfield play of Ramos and Devon Nowicki got the ball to Meghan Curtin.  Curtin made a pass from just outside the top right corner of the 18 to Garrett, and Garrett sent her blast from the top of the 18 to the upper right corner for the go-ahead goal.

Randolph did not rest on its laurels, and found a third goal thanks to a late substitution: Collier.  Garrett beat a defender on the right and passed the ball to Collier just inside the box who finished for her first goal of the season.

The 'Cats dominated the shooting statistics, outshooting the Royals 26-5 overall, including 12-4 in shots on goal.  Stephanie Quirk made three saves in the victory, while Borg made nine stops for the Royals (2-15-1 overall, 1-9-1 ODAC).

Randolph (6-11-1, 4-7) finishes the regular-season tied for eighth in the ODAC with 12 points.  However, the 'Cats have the head-to-head tiebreaker with Guilford College.  The conference office will release the tournament pairings later this weekend to determine where teams will play this week.
