Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph was strong in many aspects tonight,
but couldn't overcome Virginia Wesleyan, 17-9.
Randolph won 18 of the game's 29 faceoffs and only failed to
clear the ball three times, but the Marlins rode a 52-30 shooting
edge to the victory.
John Grundy
Jr. (Warrenton, Va./Battlefield) won 16 draws and
scooped up 13 ground balls.
Sophomore Cam
Davis (Gibsonville, N.C./Western Alamance) made
17 saves, including two six-save quarters, in defeat.
The WildCats struck first through sophomore Andrew
Risse (Annandale, Va./Annandale) just 56 seconds
into the game, but wouldn't score again until Risse's second goal
with 1:27 left in the first half.
In that time, Virginia Wesleyan struck seven times to grow a
lead it would never relinquish.
After three more Marlin goals, Randolph's all-time leading
scorer, senior Colton
Wood (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch), added one
to his total with a man-up goal.
The Marlins scored the next four, but Randolph scored six of the
game's final nine goals in an attempt to make the game
interesting.
In that span, Wood and sophomore Andrew
Gleitz (Plymouth, Ind./Culver Military Academy)
each struck twice while Randolph received one apiece from Risse and
sophomore Corey
Nehlig (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.).
Unfortunately, it was too late,
as the Marlins retained the lead.
Randolph next travels to
Bridgewater in the team's penultimate contest.
