Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. -- A furious rally came up just short as Shenandoah held on to a late lead, earning its first-ever ODAC win in men's lacrosse.
A second-year program in the ODAC, Shenandoah jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 9-2 edge at halftime as only sophomore Brian Crosby (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) and senior Colton Wood (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch) struck for the WildCats.
Shenandoah extended its lead to 10-2 with the first goal in the third, but six straight from Randolph closed the gap.
First-year Graham Southwick (Apex, N.C./Middle Creek) opened the run, followed by a pair from classmate Shane Soghomonian (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill).
Sophomore Andrew Gleitz (Plymouth, Ind./Culver Military Academy) followed before Wood struck with just 10 seconds left in the frame.
Just 18 seconds into the fourth, Wood struck again, suddenly pulling Randolph within two.
A man-up Hornet goal made the lead three once again, but Gleitz and senior Bobby Crosby (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) scored just 48 seconds apart, making the score 11-10 with 4:10 to go.
In the final minutes, Gleitz and first-year Sergio Mosquera-Limas (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) each had equalizing attempts, but goalkeeper Ben Judy and the post kept the two shots out, respectively.
Both Judy and Randolph sophomore Cam Davis (Gibsonville, N.C./Western Alamance) made a dozen saves.
Ground balls, turnovers, clears, faceoffs and shots all went slightly to Shenandoah, but the key stat was man-up opportunities, where the Hornets were 3-for-6 as opposed to Randolph's 0-for-1.
Randolph is scheduled to face Calvin on Tuesday in non-conference action.
