First-year midfielder Maggie Croft (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) was quick to respond, taking a wonderful setup from Brittany Hammons (Newport News, Va./Grafton) and Marielle Rando (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) to bring the WildCats (0-1) level.
The goal wiped away the WildCat deficit after just 31 seconds.
With the game looking like it was headed for overtime, Meghin Martin broke through for the game-winner for the hosts, taking a pass from Funck and hitting net on a low shot.
In 2011 and 2012, Randolph opened its season with one-goal wins against Ferrum. Last season the WildCats won an overtime thriller, 3-2.
