Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The Randolph College men's lacrosse team got 18 saves from first-year keeper Cam Davis (Gibsonville, N.C./Western Alamance), but No. 8 Washington and Lee University showed its offensive firepower in earning a 27-9 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over the WildCats Saturday afternoon from Wilson Field.
Washington and Lee (11-2/5-1 ODAC) tallied first just 51 seconds into the game on a Cameron Dabir goal, but first-years Andrew Risse (Annandale, Va./Blue Ridge Prep.) and Andrew Gleitz (Plymouth, Ind./Culver Academy) hooked up for Randolph to knot the game at one. W&L scored the game's next four goals, but Randolph potted four of the next five goals to trim the lead to 6-5.
That would be as close as the WildCats would get for the rest of the contest, as the Generals went on a 14-0 run over the next two quarters to pull away for the league victory. Junior Colton Wood (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch) scored twice with the man advantage for Randolph, while Gleitz, Risse Stephan Allman (Goodview, Va./Roanoke Catholic) and Bobby Crosby (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) all tallied for the WildCats.
Davis stopped 18 shots on the afternoon, as he saw a total number of 69 attempts from Washington and Lee. Seniors Ryan Blackwell (Brambleton, Va./Briar Woods) and Allman each had two caused turnovers, while Blackwell added four ground balls. Baden James (Alexandria, Va./Edison) was solid, picking up six ground balls on the afternoon.
Joe Wood led the Generals with five goals, and Dabir and Mac Means each netted three goals apiece for the hosts. Washington and Lee held a 62-32 ground ball advantage on the afternoon, as well as winning 25 of the 36 face-offs. Both teams shined on the power play, with W&L going five-for-seven and Randolph potting three goals in four attempts with the man up.
Randolph will head to Hampden-Sydney College Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. for a league contest.
