Guilford College Earns 16-7 ODAC Win Over Randolph Men's Lacrosse Wednesday

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Guilford College used a 6-1 third quarter run to pull away as the Randolph College men's lacrosse team fell to the Quakers 16-7 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action from WildCat Stadium Wednesday.

Guilford (7-5/2-3 ODAC) jumped out in front 59 seconds into the contest, as Daniel Haupt scored with help from Adam Fiore. Randolph responded to tie the game minutes later, as first-year Andrew Gleitz (Plymouth, Ind./Culver Academy) tallied from Jon O'Hara (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) at the 12:44 mark. The Quakers ended the quarter on a three-goal spurt to lead 4-1 after the first period.

The WildCats (5-8/2-4 ODAC) stopped GC's goal stretch midway through the second quarter, as first-year Andrew Risse (Annandale, Va./Blue Ridge Prep.) scooped up a ground ball and beat the GC keeper to make the score 5-2. The two teams would exchange scores over the rest of the quarter, and Guilford led 7-3 going into intermission.

After the break, Guilford opened the second half with a 4-0 run to take a 11-3 lead. Senior Stephen Allman (Goodview, Va./Roanoke Catholic) tallied twice and John Croney (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) also netted a man-up goal to pull Randolph to within seven. GC would pull away though late, earning the 16-7 win.

Allman was the lone WildCat to score multiple goals Wednesday evening, and Risse had a goal and assist for Randolph. First-year Corey Nehlig (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) scored his third goal of the year, and Colton Wood (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch) also scored once. Cam Davis (Gibsonville, N.C./Western Alamance) made eight saves on the night for Randolph.

Fiore had three goals and four assists on the night for the Quakers, and teammate Daniel Hughey had two goals and two assists. Juquan Tellis, Haupt, Nick Mann and Chandler Zirkle all posted a pair of tallies for GC. The Quakers outshot Randolph 34-21 on the evening, and won 16 of the game's 26 face-offs.

The WildCats will continue conference play Saturday afternoon with a road game at Washington and Lee University starting at 1 p.m. at Wilson Field.
