Box Score BUENA VISTA, VA – Randolph College sophomore middie Taylor Klevenz (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill) netted seven goals as the WildCats posted a 18-3 win over Southern Virginia University in a scrimmage from The Fields at SVU.
The sophomore was as economical as it comes, as she scored on all seven shots she took on the afternoon. She helped Randolph build a big 12-1 lead at halftime, as the WildCats earned a 17-2 shot advantage in the half.
After the break, Southern Virginia battled and netted a pair of goals but Randolph scored on six of its nine shots to pull away. Junior Samie Maggard (Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) also had a big game with four goals and three assists, and first-year Taylor Riccardi (Lexington, VA/Rockbridge Co.) added two goals and three ground balls.
Junior middie Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, VA/Liberty) had a solid all-around game of a goal, three assists four ground balls and eight draw controls, while teammate Melanie Eisele (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School) had two goals and two assists along with three ground balls. Senior Jess Andersen (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) added a goal and an assist, and first-year Stephanie Perlitz (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) scored her first collegiate goal.
Nushaa Kaz (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) played well on defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls, and Morgan Thompson (Sandy Hook, VA/Goochland) posted three ground balls. Goalkeepers Samantha Fagone (Bayshore, NY/Bayshore) and Sara Woodward (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Friends) combined to make five saves on the contest.
The visiting WildCats outshot the Knights 26-10 on the afternoon, and also picked up 16 draw controls as compared to the eight from Southern Virginia. Randolph was also solid on clears, successfully clearing 13 of the 14 opportunities if had Tuesday.
Randolph will open its 2013 slate this Saturday with a big conference bout with Virginia Wesleyan College at 5:30 p.m. in WildCat Stadium.
