Second Straight Two-Goal Game From Hammons Not Enough

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. -- Junior Brittany Hammons (Newport News, Va./Grafton) struck first and last, but a Randolph-Macon outburst doomed women's soccer.

Fresh off of a pair of goals in a 5-2 win Monday, Hammons opened the scoring 10 minutes in with a shot to the right of the keeper after accepting a feed from senior Marielle Rando (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) in the box.

Unfortunately for Randolph (4-12, 1-9 ODAC), Randolph-Macon (6-9, 4-6 ODAC) found its offensive stride, scoring the next seven, before Hammons wrapped up the scoring in the 85th minute.

The midfielder took a shot with enough juice to hit off the defender into the cage, but it was too little to late for the WildCats.

Hammons is the first Randolph player to have back-to-back multi-goal games since Rando did it in 2010.

With the loss, Randolph has been eliminated from playoff consideration.
