Rando, Tong Net Goals in Randolph Women's Soccer Loss to Shenandoah

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's soccer team fell to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) newcomer Shenandoah University Saturday 8-2. With the loss, the WildCats record drops to 5-5-0 (1-5-0 ODAC).

After conceding an early goal to Shenandoah forward Danielle Burris, the WildCats were able to settle down and slow the visiting Hornets's attack. Late in the first half, junior midfielder Marielle Rando (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan) received a beautiful give-and-go pass from sophomore forward Brittany Hammons (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) and lofted a shot right over the outstretched hand of the Shenandoah keeper to knot the score at one a piece.

After that goal, Shenandoah turned up the pressure and was able to net seven straight goals to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Shenandoah midfielder Catherine Major drilled a shot into the upper right corner of the net from 19 yards out and assisted on a goal from a nicely placed corner kick in the second half.

With fifteen minutes to go in the match, junior defender Chloe Tong (Easton, MD/Wye River) was able to head a shot past the Shenandoah keeper for the first goal in her collegiate career. After the WildCats were awarded with a corner kick, Rando placed a nice ball right at the head of Tong who capitalized on the opportunity.

The Randolph College women's soccer team will be back in action on Tuesday, October 2, as they head to Harrisonburg, VA to take on the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University. Game time is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
