WildCat Women's Soccer Falls in ODAC Contest to Washington and Lee

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's soccer team dropped its second consecutive Old Dominon Athletic Conference (ODAC) match on Saturday afternoon to Washington and Lee University by a score of 9-0.

The WildCats were without junior midfielder Marielle Rando (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan) and starting keeper Hunter Gibson (Newport News, VA/Denbigh Baptist). This forced Randolph to shuffle around the lineup, using valuable reserves in starting roles Saturday.

The shorthanded WildCats struggled to maintain possession throughout the first half; which allowed the Generals of Washington and Lee to attempt twenty-four shots in the period. Senior Ashley Stevens (Leicester, MA/Saint Peter-Marian) was able to make some very tough saves and tallied 18 total in her first match as a goalkeeper at the collegiate level.

Late in the first half, sophomore forward Brittany Hammons (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) had a nice look at the goal but was thwarted by a save from the Washington and Lee keeper.

In the second half, the WildCat defense settled down and was able to slow the General attack. First-year Ally Ramos (Manassas, VA/C.D. Hylton) did a nice job of distributing passes in the second half and controlling the ball, which allowed the WildCats to fire four shots during the second half.

Washington and Lee had seven different goal scorers, while Becca Dunn scored a pair of tallies for the Generals. Haley Ward, KJ Lancaster and Mary Beth Smith all had a goal and an assist as well for the Generals (4-1-0/2-0-0 ODAC)

With the loss, The WildCats drop to 4-2-0 (0-2-0 ODAC) on the season. The Randolph College women's soccer team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 18 as they play host to the rival Vixens of Sweet Briar College. Game time is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
