Big First Half Propels Roanoke College Past Randolph Women's Lacrosse Tuesday

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's lacrosse surrendered 15 first-half goals to Roanoke College Tuesday and couldn't manage to get back into the game as the WildCats were felled 20-6 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup from WildCat Stadium.

Roanoke (6-5/4-2 ODAC) scored the first four goals of the game, three coming from Darragh Evarts. Sophomore Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, VA/Liberty-Bealeton) netted the WildCats (3-7/1-5 ODAC) first tally of the game at 19:59 unassisted, her 20th goal of the season. Evarts scored another before Danielle Haney (Norwood, PA/Interboro) got help from Edwards to make the score 6-2.

Roanoke would tally the next nine goals, four coming from Allison Bonanno to push the score to 14-2. Sophomore Courtney Kellogg (Tewksbury, MA/Central Catholic) scored her third goal of the year for Randolph at 3:48 on an assist from Haney, and first-year Taylor Klevenz (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill) netted a free position shot with 56 seconds left to make the score 15-4 going into halftime.

The Maroons were too much in the second half, though the WildCats got two more goals from Klevenz, upping her season total to 26. Edwards finished with six draw controls and three ground balls, while goalkeeper Samantha Fagone (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) had 13 saves, five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Sophomore Nushaa Kaz (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) posted two caused turnovers, as did junior Ashley Stevens (Leicester, MA/St. Peter-Marian). Randolph was outshot in the game 39-13, and posted only nine of the game's 28 draw controls. Evarts finished with seven goals to lead all scorers, while Bananno and Kathleen Wager both notched four goals.

Randolph will finish its home schedule on Friday afternoon against Ferrum College at 4 p.m. in WildCat Stadium.
