Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA – No. 15-ranked Washington and Lee University scored the game's first 12 goals and never looked back as the Randolph College women's lacrosse team dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest 21-2 Tuesday evening in play from WildCat Stadium.
Washington and Lee (8-3/4-0 ODAC), despite knocking off Sweet Briar College earlier in the day, looked plenty fresh scoring five goals in the first five minutes of play. After WLU went up by 12, Randolph (2-6/0-4 ODAC) answered with its first goal of the game thanks to an unassisted tally from Taylor Klevenz (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill).
Klevenz opened the second half with her second goal of the game, but Randolph could not overcome the 27 turnovers it committed in dropping the contest to the Generals. Klevenz finished with two goals on three shots, picking up two ground balls. Sophomore Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, VA/Liberty-Bealeton) picked up four ground balls, posted three draw controls and had two caused turnovers.
First-year keeper Samantha Fagone (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) made 14 saves on the night, junior Ashley Stevens (Leicester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) chalked up four ground balls, and both Morgan Thompson (Sandy Hook, VA/Goochland) and Sara Ignarro (Fredericksburg, VA/Chancellor) each had two caused turnovers.
Washington and Lee was paced by the four goals and two assists from Alli Shearin, while Maddie McKaig had two goals and four helpers. Katie Hagen scored three times, and Christina Benedetti, Catherine Klinedinst and Margaret Klein all notched two goals for the Generals. Alex Van Horn posted seven draw controls, and defender Leanne Stone added four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Randolph will look to rebound on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. as Sweet Briar College comes to WildCat Stadium for Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Spectators are encouraged to wear pink to the contest.
