Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA — The Randolph College men's lacrosse trailed by three early in the second half but gave up nine straight goals in dropping a non-conference tussle with Albright College (PA) 16-4 in action from WildCat Stadium Tuesday.
Randolph (2-4) trailed early, but tied the game at one after a goal fromColton Wood (Chula Vista, CA/Otay Ranch) with help from Bobby Crosby (Bethel, CT/Bethel). Three straight goals from Ryan Turner catapulted the Lions to a 4-1 lead. After the WildCats and Albright exchanged goals, AC finished the half on a four goal spurt to lead 10-3.
After the break, Albright (6-0) scored five more consecutive goals to put the game away. Crosby and Wood each scored a pair of goals and posted an assist for the WildCats, who won 13 of the 23 face-offs taken. Sophomore John Grundy (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield) chalked up nine wins in 15 attempts, while first-year Nick Valentine (Richmond, VA/Benedictine) had four wins in eight face-offs.
Grundy posted a team-best seven ground balls, while Ryan Blackwell (Brambleton, VA/Briar Woods) posted six ground balls. Greg Herrick (Mt. Airy, MD/Linganore) had his best game of the season with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Kevin McCracken (Annandale, VA/Annandale) added 11 saves in net for Randolph.
Turner finished with game-high five goals for Albright, and Dan Foote posted a hat trick for the visitors. The Lions had nine goal scorers in the game, thanks to the passing of Phil Potter, who added three more assists to his nation leading total of 24. Defender Michael Donahoe had five ground balls and five caused turnovers for Albright, which outshot Randolph 47-18.
Randolph will return to action on Saturday afternoon at Guilford College at 3 p.m. in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for the WildCats.
