No. 19 Lynchburg Women's Soccer Defeats Randolph College Sunday 7-0

LYNCHBURG, VA – Lynchburg College scored three goals in a two minute stretch of the first half to pull away, eventually knocking off the Randolph College women's soccer team 7-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Sunday from WildCat Stadium.

The WildCats (4-9/1-8 ODAC) defended well in the opening minutes of the contest, holding the 19th-ranked Hornets scoreless over the first 20 minutes of the game. Senior Brittany Klippstein opened the scoring at 20:48 of the game, one-timing a shot past Randolph keeper Hunter Gibson (Newport News, VA/Denbigh) for the goal.

Klippstein was back at it 37 seconds later, as she knocked in a rebound off the hands of Gibson, making the score 2-0. ODAC goal leader Dessi Dupuy scored at 22:49 of the game off a cross from Joanie Snyder to extend the lead to three. Randolph later in the half put one in its own net to make the count 4-0.

After the intermission, Klippstein knocked a shot off the cross bar that came right to Shelley Hoath, who knocked it home for a 5-0 lead. Joanie Snyder and Kristen Melchiori each scored down the stretch to make the final 7-0.

Lynchburg outshot the WildCats 38-1 and posted 10 corner kicks to the one of Randolph. The WildCats had one shot on net, as Marielle Rando (Powhatan, VA/Powhatan) fired a second-half attempt that was saved. Gibson made 13 saves in net for the WildCats, who dropped their 25th straight contest to their crosstown rival.

Randolph will now turn its attention to Wednesday when the WildCats host Eastern Mennonite University at 7 p.m. in ODAC action from WildCat Stadium. Senior Courtney Collier (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) will be honored pre-game for Senior Night.
