LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College women's soccer team took on the Pfeiffer Falcons at home on Friday evening. Amidst the weather delays, the WildCats came out with a 2-0 shutout win.
The game started with both teams pushing the pace and staying defensively aggressive. With this momentum, the WildCats were able to take a 1-0 lead in the first half off a free kick set up by
Amanda Ramirez-Rodriguez that led to
Holly Bermingham putting it into the back of the net.
Pfeiffer didn't stop their offensive pressure as they looked to even the score before halftime, but the 'Cats defensive line held on.Â
Coming out of the half, the teams continued their fast-paced start; however, a weather delay put it on hold. Back on the field, with around 36 minutes remaining, there was still a lot of game left to play. The Falcons were struggling to find a scoring opportunity as the minutes wound down, but the WildCats shut that door with a goal off a free kick from Ramirez-Rodriguez in the 85th minute.
Randolph took eight shots, with four on goal.
Kacie Walker defended the net with five saves to earn her first career shutout.
The WildCats are back home on Wednesday at 5 p.m. to take on North Carolina Wesleyan University.
