LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team hosted the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday afternoon. The Hornets edged out the WildCats with a 4-3 win.
The Hornets led 1-0 after doubles play. Fleur Gaalman (Abcoude, Utrecht, Netherlands Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Dalton) and Sophia Cahue (Aurora, Il/Metea Valley HS) defeated Isadora Lima and Kayla Kosiorek 6-4 at first doubles. Maddie Mills (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) and Mikayla Smith (Pittsville, Md./Parkside HS) lost a close 7-6 decision to Megan Tinsley and Harper Dodd at third doubles.
In singles play, Rachel Combs (Benbrook, Texas/Homeschool) took down Lima in three sets 6-0, 5-7, 7-5 at first singles. Gaalman won her match over Kosiorek due to injury retirement at second singles. Amy Rigg (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) won 6-0, 6-4 over Dodd at fifth singles.
Randolph will host Southern Virginia on Monday in a reschedule match from last month. Start time is at 3:00 p.m.
