LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team hosted Southern Virginia in a non-conference match on Monday afternoon. The WildCats defeated the Knights 6-1.
Randolph improves to 8-4 overall with the victory.
The WildCats took two of three doubles matches to claim a point. Rachel Combs (Benbrook, Texas/Homeschool) and Amy Rigg (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) paired up to defeat Lydia Delich and Natalia Molanphy 6-2 at first doubles. Sophia Cahue (Aurora, IL/Metea Valley HS) and Mikayla Smith (Pittsville, Md./Parkside HS) were 6-1 winners over the duo of Lucy Dalgleish and Erika Read at second doubles.
Combs needed a super tiebreaker at first singles to defeat Delich 6-1, 3-6, 1-0. Cahue went three sets against Molanphy and won 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 at third singles. Rigg was a super tiebreak winner over Brynlen Weir 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-6) at second singles. Smith defeated Read 6-2, 6-1 at second singles. Natalie Thompson (Rutherfordton, N.C./Polk County HS) won 7-5, 6-4 against Hailey Laird at sixth singles.
Randolph returns to ODAC play on Wednesday when it travels to Shenandoah. The match begins at 3:00 p.m.
