WINCHESTER, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team faced Shenandoah on Wednesday afternoon in an ODAC match. The Hornets won by the score of 6-1.
Shenandoah led 1-0 after doubles play was completed. Mikayla Smith (Pittsville, Md./Parkside HS) and Sophia Cahue (Aurora, IL/Metea Valley) were able to defeat the duo of Erin Talko and Samantha Calvert 6-1 at second doubles.
Cahue had Randolph's lone win in singles play. She defeated Calvert 7-6, 6-2 at fourth singles. Fleur Gaalman (Abcoude, Utrecht, Netherlands Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Dalton) went three sets against Olivia Guzzo and fell 3-6, 6-3, 2-6 at second singles. Smith dropped a three-set third singles match to Talko 2-6, 6-3, 1-6. Amy Rigg (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) took Kendra Gillette to three sets and fell 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) in a super tiebreaker.
The WildCats host Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. The match starts at 1:00 p.m.
