Women’s Tennis Defeats Sweet Briar 5-2 in Road ODAC Match

SWEET BRIAR, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team played the first of its final three ODAC matches of the season on Friday as the WildCats faced Sweet Briar. The WildCats trailed 1-0 after doubles play but rallied to win five singles matches to take down the Vixens 5-2.

Randolph improves its overall record to 9-5 and 3-4 in conference play.

The WildCats did win one doubles match. Maddie Mills (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) and Amy Rigg (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) were 6-2 winners over the pair of Megan Vess and Atty Bestwick at third doubles.

In singles play, Sophia Cahue (Aurora, IL. /Metea Valley) defeated Bestwick 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles. Fleur Gaalman (Abcoude, Utrecht, Netherlands Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Dalton) was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Lucia Bovard at second singles. Gaalman trailed 3-4 in the first set and then won nine straight games. Rachel Combs (Benbrook, Texas/Homeschool) took down Alex Guilarte 6-2, 6-4 at first singles. She trailed 4-1 in the second set and won five straight. Rigg won 6-3, 6-2 over Ari Venturi at fifth singles. Natalie Thompson (Rutherfordton, N.C./Polk County HS) won 6-1, 6-0 over Gianna Guadagno at sixth singles.

The WildCats are back on their home court tomorrow when they host Virginia Wesleyan. The match begins at 1:00 p.m.
