GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Randolph College softball team were back in action on the road at Guilford for a midweek conference game. Randolph jumped out to an early lead, but Guilford rallied late to take game one, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon. The Quakers pulled away late in game two to complete the sweep with a 6-2 victory.
Game One
The WildCats scored both of their runs in the opening inning.
Laura Herzig reached and later came around to score on an RBI single from
Rylee Humble. Humble later scored on a Guilford fielding error to give Randolph a 2-0 lead.
Guilford chipped away with a run in the third and tied the game in the fifth before walking it off in the seventh on an RBI single.
Humble finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored while Herzig added a hit and scored.
Addy Compton also collected a hit for Randolph.
Austyn Moran was in the circle for the WildCats and struck out four.
Game Two
The WildCats scored once in the third and again in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.
Haili Gonzalez crossed the plate both times, first on a Quaker fielding error and later on an RBI bunt single from Compton.
The Quakers broke the 2-2 tie in the fifth on a passed ball before adding three more runs in the sixth.Â
Gonzalez led the WildCats offensively, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a double. Humble added two hits, while
Alexx Reinwald also finished with two hits. Compton drove in Randolph's lone RBI of the game.
Humble went the first five innings in the circle, allowing three runs, two earned, while striking out one.
Delaney Sipes then came in as relief.
The 'Cats are back on the road to Bridgewater on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
