LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team hosted the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday afternoon in a designated non-conference match. The WildCats defeated the Hornets 6-1.
Randolph improves to 10-4 overall on the season. This is the second straight year that the WildCats have defeated the Hornets by the same score.
The WildCats led 1-0 after the completion of doubles play. All three doubles pairs won their respective matches. The closest decision came at first doubles where Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain Callywith College) and Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) won 7-6 over the duo of Ricards Sparks and Nicholas Pierreux.
In the singles portion, Mulner was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Pierreux at second singles. Vincenzo Marchese took down Alexandre Gaboardi 6-1, 6-0 at third singles. Aksel Tinnes-Rimehaug (Oslo, Norway) won 6-3, 7-6 over Daniel Gomes at fourth singles. Carlos Haupt (Weston, Fla./FLVS) was a straight set winner of Dan Hardy at sixth singles. Fifth singles was the final match on the court that saw Jason Duval (Kingston, Jamaica) hold off Alvaro Quiroga Amaya 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6).
Randolph will face Shenandoah next Wednesday in Winchester. The match begins at 3:00 p.m.
