Men’s Tennis Upsets #37 Shenandoah 5-2

WINCHESTER, Va.- The #67 ranked Randolph men's tennis team took on #37 Shenandoah on Wednesday afternoon at the Lowry Tennis Court. The WildCats won five of six singles matches as they defeated the Hornets 5-2.

For Randolph, it is the program's first win over Shenandoah since 2017, which snaps a six-match winless streak. The WildCats improve to 11-4 overall and match the program record for wins. The 'Cats are now 5-2 in ODAC play.

Shenandoah led 1-0 after the completion of doubles play. Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain Callywith College) and Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) did defeat the pair of Artem Babaiev and Neal Love 6-2 at first singles. The third doubles match saw Tom Laflamme (Sunshine Coast, QLD Australia Sunshine Coast Grammar School) and Vincenzo Marchese edged out by the pair of Dominick Suwak and Aryanth Chintharlapalli 7-6 .

In the singles portion, Marchese was the first to finish as he won 6-1, 6-3 over Lucas Beasley at third singles. Aksel Tinnes-Rimehaug (Oslo, Norway) was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Babaiev at fourth singles. Mulner was a 7-5, 6-4 winner against Shine Tokas at second singles. Carlos Haupt (Weston, Fla./FLVS) defeated Max Arkans 6-0, 6-3 at sixth singles to clinch the match for Randolph. Jason Duval (Kingston, Jamaica) needed three sets in his fifth singles match against Siddharrth Rajagopalan as he won 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.

Randolph returns home to host Virginia Wesleyan, ranked #58 in the latest ITA rankings, on Saturday. Match time is at 1pm.
