Men’s Tennis Takes Down #58 Virginia Wesleyan 5-2 in Regular Season Home Finale

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The #67 Randolph men's tennis team hosted #58 Virginia Wesleyan in its final home regular season match of the season on Saturday afternoon. The WildCats led after doubles play and took four of six singles matches to win 5-2.

The victory is just the second for Randolph over Va. Wesleyan in program history and the first since 2017, which snaps an eight-match winless streak. The win is the 12th for the WildCats this season, which is a new program record, and the six ODAC wins matches the record set in 2017.

The Wildcats won at both second and third doubles to lead 1-0. Jason Duval (Kingston, Jamaica) and Aksel Tinnes-Rimehaug (Oslo, Norway) defeated Hovannes Madaanyan and Sebastien Muller 6-2 at second doubles. Tom Laflamme (Sunshine Coast, QLD Australia Sunshine Coast Grammar School) and Vincenzo Marchese were 6-4 winners over Friesto Ter Schiphorst and Veikko Sivonen at third doubles.  Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain Callywith College) and Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) were edged out 7-6 at first doubles by Jed Platts and Ayaan Choudhary.

Martin defeated Choudhary 7-5, 6-0 at first singles. Mulner was a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Platts at second singles. Marchese was a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 over Sivonen at third singles. Tinnes-Rimehaug won by injury retirement at fourth singles.

Randolph concludes its regular season next Saturday at Christopher Newport. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
