LYNCHBURG, Va- It was a rematch of last year's ODAC semifinals as the Randolph men's tennis team faced off against Averett on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars won the match by the score of 5-2.
Averett led 1-0 after the completion of doubles play with all three matches going 6-4. In the singles portion, Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain Callywith College) went up against Alex Rudy at #1 singles. Martin won 7-5, 6-4. Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) needed three sets in his match against Florian Bert at #2 singles. Bert won 7-6 in the first set but Mulner came back to win the next two sets 7-6, 6-2.
Three other singles matches needed three sets to determine a winner. Vincenzo Marchese was bested by Lucas Fiandra 6-4, 4-6, 2-6 at #3 singles. Aksel Tinnes-Rimehaug (Oslo, Norway) fell to 6-2, 3-6, 4-6 to Rafael Jodas at #4 singles. Carlos Haupt (Weston, Fla./FLVS) was edged out by Sam Egui at #6 singles 6-1, 2-6, 6-7.
Randolph hosts the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
