LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College women's lacrosse team battled through some weather delays on Wednesday afternoon before falling to Lees-McRae, 4-18. The contest was called with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter due to weather.
Lees-McRae opened the game with five straight goals before Randolph got on the board late in the first quarter.
Mackenzie Woodson scored unassisted with 2:43 remaining in the opening frame to make it 5-1. Lees-McRae added two more goals before the end of the quarter to take a 7-1 lead.
Woodson struck again in the second quarter, finding the back of the net on a free-position opportunity. However, Lees-McRae answered with five unanswered goals to carry a 13-2 advantage heading into the third quarter.
Randolph continued to compete in the second half as
Jaci Moore scored her first goal of the afternoon with 10:55 left in the third quarter. Moore later added a man-up goal in the fourth quarter with 6:02 remaining for the WildCats' final tally of the day.
Woodson finished with two goals to lead Randolph offensively, while Moore also recorded two goals. The WildCats scored twice on free-position opportunities and continued to battle despite the weather interruptions throughout the afternoon.
The team is back home on Saturday to face Guilford at 1 p.m.
