HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA.- The Randolph men's tennis team took on Hampden-Sydney in an ODAC match on Wednesday afternoon. The WildCats defeated the Tigers by the score of 7-0. It's the first shutout win by Randolph over Hampden-Sydney since 2015.
With the victory, Randolph improves to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
The WildCats led 1-0 after taking two matches in doubles play. Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain Callywith College) and Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) defeated Thomas Davis and Dillion McReynolds 6-1 at first doubles. Jason Duval (Kingston, Jamaica) and Aksel Tinnes-Rimehaug (Oslo, Norway) were 6-2 winners over the pair of Emerson Rice and Casey Coffey at second doubles.
Four out of six singles matches needed three sets to determine a winner. Martin was a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 winner over Davis at first singles. Mulner took down McReynolds 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 at second singles after trailing 5-2 in the second set. Duval won 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 over Jonathan Fogle at fifth singles. Carlos Haupt (Weston, Fla./FLVS) had a super tiebreaker win over Slade Funderburk 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 at sixth singles. Vincenzo Marchese and Tinnes-Rimehaug both won their singles matches.
Randolph returns home to host Averett on Saturday. Match time will be at 1:00 p.m.
