Men’s Lacrosse Drops Road Contest at Spalding

LOUISVILLE, KY.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team embarked on its longest road trip of the season as the WildCats faced Spalding University on Sunday. The Golden Eagles won by the score of 11-7

Spalding took an early 1-0 lead when it scored at the 12:07 mark of the first quarter. The Golden Eagles nearly took a 2-0 lead at 10:12 but Isom Xzayvyon's shot hit the crossbar. Later in the quarter, Noah Callahan (Bristow, Va./Brentsville District HS) forced a Golden Eagles turnover and was able to take advantage as he scored at 3:46 to tie the game at 1-1. With 31 seconds remaining in the period, Callahan assisted Jordan Nutter (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland HS) on his goal to give the WildCats a 2-1 lead.

In the second quarter, Spalding scored less than a minute in to knot the score at 2-2. Randolph took the lead back at 10:57 on Callahan's second goal of the game and then expanded its lead to 4-2 with nine minutes remaining in the quarter. The Golden Eagles pulled ahead with a 4-0 run with the score standing at 6-4 at halftime.

Spalding added to its lead as it tacked on three more goals to go up 9-4 with 5:38 left to play in the third quarter. The WildCat scored twice within 11 seconds late in the quarter to make it 9-6.

The Golden Eagles scored just over 30 seconds into the fourth quarter to lead 10-6. Randolph pulled to within three on Jawed Sherzad's (Lynchburg, Va./Heritage) goal with just under nine minutes to play. Spalding scored at 6:48 and was able to stave off the WildCats to close out the game.

Callahan scored three goals and added an assist for a four-point day. He also picked up four groundballs and was 2-for-4 on faceoffs. Nutter tallied two goals and one assist along with two groundballs. Sherzad and Jacob Bucceri (Spotsylvania, Va./Caroline HS) both scored once. Cooper Callan (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) dished out two assists.

Cole Robbins (Chesterfield, Va.) had a team-high five groundballs. Gavin Maple (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) caused four turnovers. Keegan Slider (Saluda, Va./Christchurch School) had 19 saves in goal.

Randolph returns home to host Hiram College on Tuesday. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
