RALEIGH, N.C. - The Randolph College Softball team opened up the Grand Slam Triangle Classic with a game against No. 25 Salisbury and N.C. Wesleyan. The team fell to Salisbury, 16-2, and fell to N.C. Wesleyan, 2-9.
Randolph scored in each of the first two innings.
Laura Herzig came home on an RBI groundout from
Addy Compton in the first, and
Chesney Shook followed with an RBI single in the second to plate
Edie Jennings and cut the deficit to 4-2.
The WildCats recorded four hits in the contest, with
Rylee Humble, Compton,
Kaitlyn Wills, and Shook each collecting one.
Against N.C. Wesleyan, The WildCats opened the scoring in the first inning when
Rachel Arce singled down the left field line to bring home Compton for a 1-0 lead.
The Battling Bishops responded with a five-run second inning and added two more runs in the third to take control of the game.
The WildCats added their second run in the sixth when Jennings singled to center field to score
Sammie Carroll.
Arce led the team at the plate with two hits and an RBI, while
Kyndall Shapiro,
Victoria Porretta, Jennings, and Humble each added a hit.
The 'Cats are back in Raleigh for day two of the Grand Slam Triangle Classic to take on Marymount at 9:30 a.m. and New York University at noon.
