PITTSBURGH, Pa.- The Randolph men's volleyball team played the first of four matches in the state of Pennsylvania as the WildCats traveled to Carlow University on Thursday. The 'Cats defeated the Celtics 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-20).
The Celtics scored the first point of the first set but the WildCats answered with a 5-0 run to take a 5-1 lead. Randolph went on to go ahead 11-5 but Carlow closed the score to 11-8. An 8-2 WildCat run staked Randolph to a 19-10 lead on its way to a 25-17 set win.
The WildCats started off hot in the second set as they got out to a 7-1 lead. Carlow got as close as 16-8 but it was all Randolph the rest of the way as it used a 9-4 run to claim the set.
The third set saw the 'Cats lead 11-4 at one point. With the score standing at 13-8, the Celtics made their way back as they used an 8-1 run to lead 16-14. Randolph countered with an 11-4 run as it pulled out in front of Carlow and claimed the set and match win.
Ahmed Diallo (Aurora, Colo./Overland HS) led Randolph with eight kills and hit .313 on the night. Conner Maher (Buckeye, Ariz./Odyssey Institute) finished with 19 assists. Shamel Smith (Tamarac, Fla.) led in digs with five.
Randolph heads to Grove City tomorrow night. Match time is at 7:30 p.m.
