ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Randolph College women's lacrosse team battled throughout four quarters but ultimately fell 8-12 to N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
Randolph was led offensively by
Mackenzie Woodson, who recorded four goals, while
Emille Taduran added two goals.
Abi Brigman and
Henley Bagby each chipped in one score for the WildCats.
The Battling Bishops jumped out to an early advantage, scoring the first four goals of the opening quarter. Brigman put Randolph on the board with 3:37 remaining in the period, but N.C. Wesleyan answered with a man-up goal to take a 5-1 lead after one quarter.
Randolph responded in the second period with strong offensive pressure. Woodson scored twice, including a goal off an assist from Brigman, and Bagby added a goal to cut the deficit to 6-4 at halftime.
The third quarter proved to be decisive, as N.C. Wesleyan posted five goals in the period, including two man-up scores. Woodson netted her third goal of the afternoon for Randolph, but the WildCats trailed 11-5 heading into the final quarter.
The Battling Bishops opened the fourth quarter scoring to extend their lead to 12-5. Randolph showed resilience late, as Taduran scored back-to-back goals—one on a man-up opportunity assisted by Woodson—before Woodson capped her four-goal performance with a final tally in the last minute of play.
As a team, they recorded 12 shots, 10 of which were on goal.
Mireya Norville made nine saves for the WildCats.
The 'Cats are back home for their home opener on Thursday against Cedar Crest at 4 p.m.
