Women's Volleyball Drops Two at Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Randolph WildCats women's volleyball team continued its six-match road trip Saturday with a tri-match against No. 23 Bridgewater and Stevens. Playing both contests on less than 16 hours of rest, the WildCats showed stretches of resilience but fell in both matches.

GAME ONE VS. BRIDGEWATER: 25-12, 25-21, 25-20

Bridgewater found its rhythm early, but Randolph responded with a brief run sparked by an Alyssa Thompson kill after falling behind 7-2. The Eagles pulled away late to take the opening set. The WildCats came out firing in the second, racing to a 9-3 lead and trading points with the hosts. Randolph held an 18-20 deficit late before Bridgewater closed on a 7-1 run to take the set. In the third, the teams battled through the media timeout before the Eagles made their move with a 4-0 run. Randolph answered with four straight points of its own, cutting the deficit to 19-17, but Bridgewater closed out the match.

Makayla Waiters led Randolph with eight kills, followed by Kelsey Bowler with seven. Waiters and Thompson each recorded five blocks. Berger paced the offense with 10 assists, while McKayla Padgett led the defense with 13 digs.

GAME TWO VS. STEVENS: 25-16, 25-12, 25-17

With little time to recover, Randolph returned to the court to face Stevens. The WildCats held an early lead in the opening set before the Ducks took control and kept Randolph chasing the rest of the way. Stevens built a fast lead in the second set with a 15-5 run. Randolph responded with an 8-5 stretch of its own, but the Ducks closed with the final five points. The WildCats battled throughout the third, keeping the deficit within three points late. However, Stevens scored the final five points to seal the sweep.

Waiters again led Randolph offensively with seven kills, while Destanie Ambers added six kills and nine digs. Ambers is now just nine digs shy of reaching 300 for the season. Berger contributed 12 assists and seven digs.

With the losses, Randolph moves to 12-10 overall and 3-5 in ODAC play. The WildCats continue their six-match road trip Wednesday, Oct. 21, with a conference matchup against Averett in Danville. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
