LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team hosted #15 Roanoke in an ODAC contest on Wednesday evening at Giles Gymnasium. The Maroons won the game by the score of 86-74.
The Maroons started the game with a 6-0 lead three and a half minutes into the first half. After a jump shot by Elijah Cox (Galax, Va./Carroll County) made it 6-2, Roanoke went on a 13-2 run to lead 19-4 with 12:08 showing on the game clock. A 10-2 run by the WildCats pulled the home team to within seven points at 21-14 with under eight minutes to play in the period. Randolph came back to make it a two-possession game, 28-22, with 5:46 showing on the game clock. The Maroons would go on to lead 43-30 at halftime.
Roanoke increased its lead to 15 points to start the second half. The 'Cats cut it down to nine points with an 8-2 run at 17:20. The Maroons would go on to lead by double digits for the remainder of the half with the WildCats getting as close as 12 points late in the game.
Randolph shot 27-of-62 (43.5%) from the floor and went 9-of-25 (36%) from behind the three-point line. The WildCats were a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line. Roanoke was 32-of-65 overall (49.2%) and were 4-of-14 (28.6%) from behind the three-point line.
Aveion Tucker (Newport News, Va./Woodside HS) and Khalil Caple (Suffolk, Va./Kings Fork HS) both scored 21 points. Tucker added five assists and four rebounds while Caple led in rebounds with seven to go with three assists and two steals. Chase Depriest (Clifton Forge, Va./Aleghany HS) finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
The WildCats will travel to Shenandoah on Saturday. Game time from Winchester will be at 2:00 p.m.
