Men’s Basketball Falls to W&L

LEXINGTON, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team traveled to Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon for an ODAC matchup. Randolph lost by the score of 77-65.

In the first half, the Generals led 12-5 with 16:29 showing on the game clock. W&L would go on to lead 22-12 at the 13:10 mark. An 8-0 run by Randolph got it to within two points at 22-20 with 11:03 left on the clock. After the Generals went up by three points, a pair of free throws by Viktor Parson (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) closed the WildCat gap to one point. A 17-4 run by the Generals, however, put the home team ahead 40-26 at halftime.

In the second half, the WildCats got a traditional three-point play by Khalil Caple (Suffolk, Va./Kings Fork HS) to make it a 40-29 contest. After the Generals took a 47-33 lead, a three by Chase Depriest (Clifton Forge, Va./Alleghany HS) cut the lead down to 11. After falling behind 49-36, the WildCats went on a 6-0 run to get to within seven points. Randolph came to within two points of tying the game, 55-53, with 9:06 remaining. The WildCats were able to make it a one-point game, 58-57, with 6:45 showing on the clock. It was still a one-possession game with 4:14 left but a 15-5 Generals run gave W&L a big lead on its way to the win.

Randolph was 24-of-55 from the floor and 9-of-22 from behind the three-point arc. W&L was 25-of-58 overall and 11-of-28 in three-point attempts. The WildCats did have a slight 37-36 edge in rebounds.

Aveion Tucker (Newport News, Va./Woodside HS) scored 14 points to lead Randolph and also dished out four assists. Parson finished with 13 points and three rebounds. Caple added 11 points and five rebounds. Depriest tacked on 10 points. Stacy Byrd (Amelia Court House, Va./The Carmel School) had a team-high 10 rebounds.

Randolph hosts Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday night. Game time from Giles Gymnasium will be at 7:00 p.m.
