Women’s Volleyball Defeats Pitt-Bradford; Turner Eclipses 1,000 Career Assists

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's volleyball team hosted Pitt-Bradford in a non-conference match on Saturday at Giles Gymnasium. The teams went to four sets where the WildCats won 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 23-25, 25-22).

Of note, Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) led Randolph with 48 assists. That now puts her over 1,000 for her career which includes her two years spent at Goucher College.

In the first set, the WildCats got out in front 9-3 and the lead grew to 15-8. Randolph continued to push ahead as it went up 19-10 and 23-15 before winning the set 25-17.

The Panthers led 3-1 to start the second set but the WildCats rattled off five straight points to go up 6-3. Pitt-Bradford rallied to tie and then eventually went ahead 17-16. The two squads exchanged points and the Panthers were a point away of tying the match up as they led 24-23. Randolph picked up the last three points of the frame on a pair of Panther errors and a kill by Kelsey Bowler (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) to win 26-24.

Randolph led in the third set 4-0. Ahead 14-11, the WildCat lead disappeared as the Panthers went on an 8-4 run to go up 20-18. The WildCats tallied four points to lead 22-20 but Pitt-Bradford went on a 5-1 run to close the set out and win 25-23.

Pitt-Bradford started out the fourth set ahead 5-1 but the lead did not last long as Randolph jumped ahead 5-0 to go up 6-5. Holding on to a 9-8 lead, the 'Cats broke away from the Panthers with a big 8-0 run to increase their lead to nine points, 17-8. Pitt-Bradford made a run of its own, 13-4, to tie the set at 21-21. Randolph broke away in the end with a 4-1 run that concluded with a kill by Bowler for the winning point.

Bowler and Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) both had 13 kills to lead the WildCats.  Finnerty finished the day with a .435 hitting percentage. Jamie Galinis (Greenville, N.C./DH Conley) added 12 kills and Caroline Towle (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) 11 kills. Towle also chipped in 14 digs. Abby Maldonado (High Point, N.C./Penn-Griffin SOTA) had a team-high 23 digs. Mackenzie Woodson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) and Turner both had 12 digs each. Nadia Warrior (Yorktown, Va./York HS) totaled four block assists.

Randolph returns to ODAC play on Wednesday as it hosts Guilford. The match begins at 6:30 p.m.
