Men’s Soccer Drops Road Contest to Hampden-Sydney

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA.- The Randolph men's soccer team traveled to Hampden-Sydney on Saturday for a designated non-conference game against the Tigers. The WildCats struck first in the first half but the Tigers netted two goals in the second half as they would go on to defeat Randolph 2-1.

It was Hampden-Sydney that came out firing early on in the first half as it registered six shots in just over 22 minutes of game time before the 'Cats attempted their first shot of the night. Randolph was granted a corner kick in the 33rd minute. Bryan Leiva-Membreno's (Herndon, Va./Herndon) kick found the head of Brad McCall (Falls Church, Va./Falls Church) who headed it into the back of the net to give Randolph a 1-0 lead.

The WildCat lead held for just over six minutes into the second half. The Tigers' Owen Edward got Hampden-Sydney on the board in the 52nd minute to tie the contest at 1-1.

The teams remained at a 1-1 stalemate for just over 25 minutes of game time. Randolph keeper Dominic Cortes (Annandale, Va./Annandale) made three key saves for the WildCats. The Tigers would net the game winner in the 77th minute as Mo Wumpini found Mason Dudley for the goal to put HS-C ahead for good 2-1.

The Tigers tripled up the WildCats in total shots 21-7. Shots on goal were 8-1 in Hampden-Sydney's favor. The Tigers edged out the WildCats in corner kicks 5-4.

Cortes finished with six saves for the WildCats. His counterpart for Hampden-Sydney, Stig Larson, did not record a save.

Randolph travels to Concord University on Monday. Game time from Athens, W.V. will be at 1:00 p.m.
