Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Southern Virginia 1-0

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team was back on the field on Saturday night as they hosted Southern Virginia. The WildCats scored once on the evening and held the Knights off the scoreboard as they won by the score of 1-0.

The WildCats registered their first shot one goal in the 35th minute with SVU's first shot on frame coming in the 40th minute. Overall, Randolph led 6-5 in total shots in the first period.

Randolph came out quickly in the second half as they scored seconds into the period. Anelka Ngoy (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) assisted Matthew Campbell (Lovingston, Va./ Liberty Christian) on the score to give the 'Cats the 1-0 lead.

The WildCat defense stood firm as they prevented any Knight threat. Dominic Cortes (Annandale, Va./Annandale HS) came up huge as he made four key saves to come away with his first collegiate shutout.

Overall, the WildCats led 13-11 in total shots. The teams were even 6-6 in shots on goal.

Cortes ended the night with six saves. His counterpart for Southern Virginia, Troy Chamberlain, finished with five saves.

Randolph travels to Greensboro on Wednesday. Game time will be at 6:30 p.m.
