Men's Tennis Falls to #20 W&L

LEXINGTON, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team played an early week match against #20 Washington and Lee at the Duchossois Tennis Center on Tuesday. The Generals won the non-conference match 4-0.

First and second doubles were 6-2 decisions in the Generals' favor. In singles play, Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) battled Evan Erb at first singles. Erb won the match 6-1, 6-4. Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain Callywith College) dropped his 6-3, 6-3 second singles match to Will Kistler. Vincenzo Marchese lost to James Kurani 6-4, 6-1 at third singles.

"Really proud of how our guys competed today against a top-20 team," said head coach Sam Martinez. "Doubles was solid and for Ondra and Vincenzo to play together for the first time and be 4-4 against that #3 doubles team was encouraging."

Randolph is back home tomorrow when it hosts Roanoke. The match begins at 4:00 p.m.

"I think one of the areas that we're this close to figuring out is playing the pressure points on deuce with a little more nerve and composure," said Martinez. "The W&L 1-3 were seniors in singles and were just a little more clutch that we were but we'll get there."
