Softball Drops ODAC Doubleheader to Bridgewater

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph softball team came up just short, falling 0-1 to Bridgewater College in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at the Randolph Softball Complex. In game two, the WildCats struck first but couldn't hold on as the Eagles used a series of late-inning rallies to take a 7-1 victory.

Austyn Moran in the circle allowed just one run on five hits over five innings of work. She struck out one and walked two in the outing. Hailey Metzger pitched two scoreless innings in relief, retiring six of the seven batters she faced.

Offensively, the WildCats got singles from Riley Shupe, Moran, and Bethany Martz, but were unable to string together enough offense to push a run across.

In game two, Randolph (5-25, 4-10 ODAC) grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Rachel Arce delivered an RBI single through the right side, scoring Chesney Shook.

Bridgewater (22-10, 12-2 ODAC) stayed quiet until the fourth inning, when the Eagles erupted for three runs. The Eagles added another run in the fifth and padded its lead in the seventh with another three-run double.

Randolph's offense collected six hits, including a double from Edie Jennings in a pinch-hit appearance and a multi-hit game from Lacey Lucado. Humble got the start for the WildCats in the circle, allowing six runs on 12 hits in six innings of work. Aubree Bass tossed the final frame, giving up one run on one hit.

The 'Cats head over to Randolph-Macon, Sunday, for 2 and 4 p.m. doubleheader.
