LYNCHBURG, VA.- The Randolph men's tennis team hosted Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday afternoon in an ODAC matchup. The Tigers held off the WildCats 4-3.
The Tigers led 1-0 after doubles play. The pair of Carlos Haupt (Weston, Fla./FLVS) and Jason Duval (Kingston, Jamaica) won their second doubles match over Casey Coffey and Dillion McReynolds 6-4.
In the singles portion. Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) won easily over McReynolds 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. Vincenzo Marchese won at third singles against Thomas Davis 6-0, 6-2. Haupt was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Jonathan Fogle at sixth singles. The match came down to fifth singles which pitted Duval against Henry Singleton. Singleton edged out Duval 7-6 in the first set while Duval came back to win the second set 6-4. Singleton claimed the third set 6-3 to clinch the match for Hampden-Sydney.
Randolph travels to Bridgewater this coming Saturday. The match will start at 1:00 p.m.
