LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team hosted Shenandoah in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon. The WildCats came out winners on the day as they defeated the Hornets 5-2.
The win improves Randolph's overall record to 6-3 on the season.
The WildCats led 1-0 after doubles play concluded. Lena Kersten (Bonn, Germany) and Lize van Veen (Harderwijk, The Netherlands RSG Slingerbos) won 6-2 over Olivia Guzzo and Tanea Spruill. Emma Bauer (Munich, Germany) and Fleur Gaalman (Abcoude, Utrecht, Netherlands Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Dalton) won their second doubles match 6-2 as did Sabrina Dickerson (Brookneal, Va.) and Gianna Cabrera (Portsmouth, Va.) at third doubles.
Kersten was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Spruill at first singles. Gaalman knocked off Guzzo 6-1, 6-1 at second singles. Bauer won 6-0, 6-2 over Allison Cherwien at third singles. Maddie Mills (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) was a winner at fifth singles as she won 6-2, 6-4 over Leigha Montrief.
Randolph returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Bridgewater. Match time is at 1:00 p.m.
