LYNCHBURG, Va. — Despite a strong fourth-inning rally, the Randolph softball team was unable to overcome Mary Washington, falling 3-9 in game one. In game two, the WildCats fell 1-10.

Mary Washington (6-16) jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run triple. The Eagles added another run in the third to extend their lead to 4-0.

Randolph (1-15) responded in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the deficit to one. Sammie Carroll started the rally, scoring on an RBI sacrifice fly from Addy Compton. Rachel Arce followed with an RBI single up the middle to bring home Haili Gonzalez, and a fielding error allowed Delaney Sipes to score, making it a 4-3 game.

Mary Washington answered back in the fifth, scoring three runs to regain control. A two-run single extended the Eagles' lead to 7-3. They tacked on two more in the sixth to secure the win.
Laura Herzig led the WildCats with two hits, while Arce, Desiree Scott, Chesney Shook, Michaela Williams, and Zoe Watson each recorded one. Paige Scruggs allowed three runs (one earned) in two innings.

Game two, the Eagles came out strong, plating four runs in the first inning. A two-RBI double and an RBI single put Mary Washington ahead early. The visitors continued their offensive pressure in the second inning, adding three more runs, including a run-scoring fielder's choice and a defensive miscue that allowed another run to score.

The WildCats managed four hits in the game, with Bethany Martz, Addie Bowen, Makenzee Kenney, and Edie Jennings each recording one. Randolph's lone run came in the bottom of the fourth when Compton scored on an error, cutting the deficit to 9-1.
