LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph women's lacrosse team hosted Brevard College for the home opener on Friday afternoon. The Tornadoes won 14-3 over the WildCats.
The first quarter saw Brevard get on the board first at 13:01 from Xan Hill. The WildCats respond with a goal of their own from
Mackenzie Woodson, assisted by
Jaci Moore. A couple minutes later the Tornadoes took the lead back at 8:12 with a goal from Emily Denaga, assisted by Hill. It was a three goal run for the Tornadoes to close out the quarter. In the second, Brevard scored three more goals to push their lead 8-1 before the half.
Out of the half, it was another run for the Tornadoes to lead 12-1 at 7:42 in the third quarter. With 2:25 to go in the quarter, Moore scored a goal on a free position shot. For the final quarter, both teams were scoreless for the five minutes until Brevard's Hill scored off an assist from Sofia Hardin. Alyse Moore put a point on the board for the Tornadoes to lead 14-2 with just under five minutes to go. The WildCats at one last attempt scored their third goal of the day from
Gracie Oliver.
Brevard out shot Randolph 26-15 on the day, and Brevard picked up 19 ground balls to Randolph's 14.
Mireya Norville and
Jessica Reyes split goalkeeping duties. Norville had seven saves and Reyes had one. Moore had scored one goal on seven shots (three shots on goal). She also won three draw controls.
Maddie Friel had three shots with two shots on goal with two caused turnovers. Woodson was Randolph's other goal scorer with two shots and two shots on goal. Oliver had four ground balls with two shots and one goal.
The 'Cats are back on the road tomorrow, Saturday, for a 1 p.m. game at Greensboro College.
