Women's Lacrosse Falls to Greensboro, Despite Strong Start

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Randolph women's lacrosse team went to Greensboro for an afternoon match-up. Greensboro took the win at Pride Field 17-6.

The WildCats fought throughout the game, keeping pace early before the Pride pulled away in the second and third quarters. Piper DeMartino led the 'Cats offense with two goals, while four other WildCats–Jaci Moore, Mackenzie Woodson, Zoe Green, and Gracie Oliver–each found the back of the net.

The Pride struck first, opening a 2-0 lead in the first quarter until DeMartino got the 'Cats on the board off an assist from Woodson at 4:44 on the clock. The Pride soon responded with another goal just before the quarter ended to take a 3-1 lead.

The WildCat's offense showed some spark in the second quarter as Oliver scored unassisted to cut the defiance to 4-2. Not long after, DeMartino netted her second goal of the day to make it a one-goal game difference. However, a 5-0 goal run for the Pride gave them a 9-3 lead going into halftime.

Woodson broke the scoring drought in the third, tallying an unassisted goal at 11:09, but another run from the Pride extended their lead, scoring five more times. In the fourth quarter, Green and Moore each added a goal for Randolph, but the WildCats could not overcome the deficit as Greensboro sealed the victory.

Moore had seven shots (three on target) and won five draw controls. Woodson had four shots (three on goal) and two caused turnovers. DeMartino and Oliver each had three shots apiece and Emille Taduran and Green had two each.

The 'Cats are back home on Tuesday evening when the team hosts Washington & Lee at 7 p.m. at WildCat Stadium.
