FREDERICKSBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team traveled to Mary Washington for a non-conference match against the #27 ranked Eagles on Wednesday. UMW defeated the WildCats 6-1.

In doubles play, the 'Cats had a close defeat at first doubles. Lena Kersten (Bonn, Germany Otto Kuhne Schule) and Lize van Veen (Harderwijk, The Netherlands RSG Slingerbos) fell to Addison Felts and Natalie Kim 7-5.

Randolph's lone win came at third singles. Fleur Gaalman (Abcoude, Utrecht, Netherlands Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Dalton) defeated Linda Dimitroff 6-3, 7-5. Felts won the first set 6-2 and Kersten the second set 6-2. Felts edged out Kersten 10-8 in the deciding set.

"For our young team to play that well this early in the year against a top-30 team is incredibly exciting," said head coach Sam Martinez. "That match could have easily been 5-2 or 4-3 overall. A great tone setting heading into our first ODAC match this weekend with Guilford at home."

The WildCats host their first match of the spring on Saturday against the Quakers. The match begins at 1:00 p.m.
