Men's Basketball Sets Scoring Record in Win Over Warren Wilson

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph men's basketball team put on an offensive clinic on their home court, cruising past Warren Wilson with a dominant 120-94 victory. The WildCats showcased their depth and efficiency, with five players in double figures and the bench combining for an impressive 69 points.

The 120 points are the highest in program history.

Randolph only trailed once in the game being down by two in the first half, but they quickly regained the lead and led the rest of the way. Amari Gorham scored the first points for the WildCats, then, a 13-2 run after the Owls went up by two with 16:39 showing on the clock to burst open the lead to 11. The Owls attempted to come back with a 13-11 run, but the WildCats never faltered and maintained their lead with efficient shooting and defense. The 'Cats had their largest lead of the half by 24 points, 64-40, heading into the second half.

In the second half, Randolph maintained a strong lead over the Owls, capitalizing on turnovers and fast break opportunities. The Owls, however, did cut into the lead with 15:28 to go, being down only 14 points. The WildCats had their biggest lead of the night, up by 31, 97-66, with around eight minutes left. As the time wound down, the Owls did have a 24-23 run in the end but it was not enough as the WildCats walked away with their third 100+ point game of the season. 

Randolph was 49-of-99 (46.5%) on the night from the floor and 15-of-49 (36.4%) in three-point attempts, both a new team record for field goals attempted and three-point attempts. The WildCats led in the paint 60-44, in points off turnovers 28-9, and second chance points 17-15.

Jordan Phillips-McLoyd led the team with 16 points with four assists. Viktor Parson added 16 points, shooting 3-of-7 from the three and perfect 3-3 from the line. Gorham contributed 15 points and four steals. Ryan Viruso was key off the bench with 13 points. Bryce Watlington chipped in 10 points and six rebounds for the 'Cats and shot a perfect 5-of-5 from the field. Cole Perry had six rebounds and Evan Wiehe had five.

The 'Cats are back in action on Saturday for their final home game against #4 Randolph-Macon for senior day. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. in Giles Gymnasium.
