FERRUM, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team travelled to Ferrum on Sunday afternoon for an ODAC contest. The Panthers defeated the WildCats 93-65.
The WildCats scored the game's first basket on a three pointer by Amari Gorham (Yorktown, Va./Yorktown). The score would be tied twice in the next four minutes of play until the Panthers went ahead 11-7 with 13:16 on the clock. An 11-2 WildCat run put Randolph ahead 18-13 under the 11-minute mark. A 10-0 burst by Ferrum gave the home team a six-point lead, 26-20, at 7:14. Still holding a six-point lead at 4:39, the Panthers then went on a 17-4 run to close out the first half and lead 48-29 at the break.
The Ferrum lead increased to 21 points to start the second half after a tip-in by Tae Allen. A big 19-6 run by the WildCats closed their deficit to 10 points, 56-46, at the under 13-minute mark. A 12-4 Panther run, however, put them ahead 68-50 with 8:43 remaining. Randolph got as close as 15 points but the Panthers continued to add to their lead as they went ahead by as much as 29 points.
Jordan Phillips-McLoyd (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) led Randolph with 18 points to go with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Bryce Watlington (Newport News, Va.) added a season-high 12 points, a team-leading eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Elijah Cox (Galax, Va./Carroll County) finished with 11 points and four rebounds. Gorham scored 10 points.
Randolph is scheduled to play Warren Wilson in a non-conference game on Wednesday. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
