LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team hosted Roanoke on Wednesday evening at WildCat Stadium. The Maroons won by the score of 5-1.
Roanoke took the lead less than four minutes into the first period. Randolph nearly had the equalizer just over three minutes later but Marcus Cortes' (Annandale, Va./Annandale HS) shot attempt glanced off the crossbar and back onto the field of play. The Maroons scored a second time in the 39th minute to lead 2-0 at halftime.
The Maroons tallied their third goal of the night in the 62nd minute. The WildCats finally got on the scoreboard as Cortes sent a pass in to Corey Williams (Lynchburg, Va./Appomattox County HS) who was able to get a shot through a pair of Maroon defenders and in to make it 3-1 at 63:53.
RC scored again in the 77th and 84th minutes. Total shots favored the visitors 16-8 and shots on goal were 10-2 in Roanoke's favor. Randolph did lead in corner kicks 5-3.
Dominic Cortes (Annandale, Va./Annandale HS) stopped five shots in goal for Randolph. Denzel Marufu did not record a save for the Maroons in the net.
Randolph travels to Averett on Saturday. Game time from Danville will be at 11:30 a.m.
