LYNCHBURG, Va. The Randolph women's volleyball team made the short trip across town to the University of Lynchburg to take on the Hornets in a key ODAC match on Wednesday evening. Lynchburg had the upper hand on the WildCats as it won by the score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-17).
The Hornets had the early led on the WildCats in the first set 4-2 but Randolph came back to go ahead 5-4. It was even at 8-8 until Lynchburg broke away with a 6-0 run to go ahead 14-8. The 'Cats got as close as four points at 18-14 but Lynchburg held its lead with a 7-1 run in the end.
The second set saw the Hornets get out in front 8-2. Randolph started to chip away at its deficit making the score 9-6. The WildCats were still within striking distance of the Hornets at 17-13 but an 8-3 Lynchburg run pushed the home team to a 25-16 set win.
The third set was tight early on with neither team establishing a significant run. The WildCats did have a 13-11 advantage but a 14-4 run by the Hornets in the end brought Lynchburg on top as it claimed the set 25-17.
Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) led the 'Cats with six kills and hit .545 on the night. She added five total blocks. Tahani Villines (Whittset, N.C./Williams had a team-high 10 digs. Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had 11 assists and Jayda Domenech (Virgnia Beach, Va./Kempsville) 10 assists.
Randolph is back on the road on Saturday as they head to Eastern Mennonite. The WildCats will play the host Royals at 12:00 pm and St. Mary's College of Maryland at 2:00 pm.
