Men’s Tennis Shuts Out SVU 7-0

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team officially began its fall season competition as it took on Southern Virginia on Wednesday afternoon. The WildCats won all nine matches as it defeated the Knights 7-0.

Doubles counts as one point in Division III tennis. The WildCats won at first doubles as Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain Callywith College) and Ondra Pelda (Prague, Czech Republic) were 6-3 winners over Nate Walton and Trent McBride. Jason Duval and Carlos Haupt (Weston, Fla./FLVS) knocked off the pair of Trajen Kingston and Jacob Feldman 6-3. Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) and Vincenzo Marchese dropped a 6-1 decision to Chase Rishel and Jared Pitcher.

In the singles portion, Martin defeated Pitcher 6-4, 6-3 at #1 singles. Mulner took down Walton 6-0, 6-2 at #2. Marchese was able to get by McBride 7-6, 6-3. Pelda won 6-4, 6-2 over Kingston at #4 singles. Lucas Rathjeb (Koln, Germany/Apostelgymnasium) needed a tiebreaker at #5 as he was able to get past Rishel 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (12-10). Duval was an east winner over Feldman 6-1, 6-0.

The team will next prepare for the ITA Southeast Regionals at Mary Washington. Competition begins on Friday.
