FREDERICKSBURG, Va.- Members of the Randolph men's tennis team began the first day of competition at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship hosted by Mary Washington on Friday.
In the Championship draw of doubles play, Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain Callywith College) and Ondra Pelda (Prague, Czech Republic) faced Luca Morboli and Alex Rintoul from Lynchburg in the first round. Martin and Pelda won 6-2. Next up was the duo of James McKenzie and Justin Minerva from Haverford. Martin and Pelda were able to come out on top 8-7 to advance to the Round of 16 for the first time in program history where they will face Brock Ladehoff and Evan Fisher from Mary Washington.
In singles play, Martin won his First Round match in the Championship draw over Lynchburg's Luca Morbioli 8-5. Martin then faced Dylan Blenkiorn from Johns Hopkins and won 8-2. Martin advances to tomorrow's Round of 16 match against Shenandoah's Artem Babaiev at noon. He is the first Randolph men's singles player to advance to the Round of 16.
Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) fell to McKenzie 8-4 in his Championship singles draw.
